Telangana - Top Solar Power Generation States, but Modi Govt not providing Financial Support

SIBY JEYYA
Telangana is one of the States that produces the most solar energy in the nation, but the Modi administration at the Centre was not giving it adequate financial assistance to boost its installation capacity. While the Centre has been approving data-sizeable funding for BJP-ruled States to implement solar power through a variety of programmes.
According to information presented by the Ministry of Power and New & Renewable Energy in the lok sabha during the recently concluded monsoon session, over the past five years, the Centre has distributed funds to gujarat, Karnataka, maharashtra, and madhya pradesh under various federal programmes to promote solar energy totaling Rs. 1957 crore, Rs. 682.56 crore, Rs. 814.17 crore, and Rs. 621.01 crore. However, telangana has only received a modest allocation of Rs. 253.6 crore. In actuality, telangana received less than Rs. 55 crore annually.

According to information provided to the House, gujarat received funding of Rs. 1242.71 crore during the 2021–22 fiscal year and Rs. 1114.65 crore during the 2022–23 fiscal year, whereas telangana received just Rs. 49.11 crore and Rs. 42.81 crore during the same time periods.

Telangana has been performing remarkably well in terms of solar energy generation, while receiving minimal help from the Centre. During the 2022–23 fiscal year, telangana, which has installed solar power capacity of 4,695.21 MW, generated 6745.46 mu of energy, whereas gujarat, which has installed solar power capacity of 10,133.66 MW, could only generate 10,335.32 mu. Similar to gujarat, maharashtra only managed to produce 4387.85 mu despite having an installed capacity of 4870.64 MW.

The solar energy systems deployed in the State were producing electricity at their maximum potential, according to representatives of telangana State Renewable Energy Development Corporation (TSREDCO), the nodal body for the execution of new and renewable energy initiatives in the State. telangana now generates 6745.46 mu out of a total solar power generation potential of around 7200 mu units. Which indicates that the majority of the state's solar power units are operating at their best capacity, according to an official.
