Laptop-Tablets Import Ban: New rules will be issued...
The Modi administration at the Centre had made the decision to forbid the import of laptops, tablets, and personal computers the day before, on Thursday, august 2, 2023, in an effort to support Make in India. However, it is currently thought that the government may postpone putting this decision into effect. New regulations governing the import of laptops, tablets, and personal computers will be released, according to minister of State for Information technology Rajiv Chandrasekhar.
According to rajeev Chandrasekhar, the government wants to lessen its reliance on imports while also ensuring that the country has solid hardware systems. According to him, the government seeks to enhance domestic production of these product categories. He stated in response to a tweeter that this is not a licence raj issue, but rather one of import regulation. The government may extend the deadline for businesses to submit their import applications. A top government official stated that there has been no import embargo the day after the notification was issued. Laptops, tablets, and IT hardware are all importable to businesses and traders.According to a senior government official, the government's decision will not result in an increase in the cost of laptops, tablets, or personal computers or a disruption in their supply. According to him, the import permit would be given in just five minutes. The DGFT's online licence portal is operational and is good for the upcoming calendar year. He claimed that by restricting the import of laptops, tablets, and computers, India's trade deficit with china will be reduced, and indigenous production will be encouraged.
