Telangana Hyderabad likely to join list of Cities with Two Airports

Hyderabad will probably soon join the group of cities with two commercial airports after the telangana government suggested building a second airport there. This issue will soon be discussed with the defensive Ministry. The government intends to ask the centre to provide permission for the use of the defensive airfield at Hakimpet for civil aviation.

State industries minister K.T. Rama Rao stated during a recent cabinet meeting presided over by telangana chief minister K. Chandrashekar Rao that the Hakimpet station can operate in a hybrid paradigm similar to pune and Goa, where the airports are utilised for both civil aviation and defence.


Currently, 2.5 crore people per year are served by the international airport at Shamshabad, Hyderabad. The government decided a second airport was necessary due to the city's rapid expansion. delhi NCR in india also has two airports. Hindon airport, in addition to indira gandhi international airport, is another commercial airport in the area. The smallest state in india, Goa, has two airports as well. The first is in South Goa, while the second is in North Goa. They are Manohar international airport and Dabolim airport, respectively.

Internationally, there are many cities that have two airports. Some of them are

• Belgium’s Brussels
• Poland’s Warsaw
• Canada’s Montreal
• China’s Beijing
• Turkey’s Istanbul and
• UK’s Glasgow.
