Muslims express disappointment with Telangana govt

Shia Muslims have criticized the telangana government for the grant-in-aid nazrana for the tenth day of Muharram. Community leaders reportedly said in a story in DC that although the government had promised to help with Muharram preparations, no money had yet been made available.
They claim that releasing it beyond the tenth day of Muharram will defeat the purpose. It is said that a shortage of funding has left many Ashoor Khanas setups unfinished. The government has promised to boost grant-in-aid this year to 50 lakhs in addition to raising Ashoor Khanas, according to Mir abbas Ali Moosvi, head of Anjuman-e-Mutawallian.
Both occasions attract sizable crowds and end with protracted processions. The usage of elephants to transport historical artefacts is another frequent occurrence. On Youm-e-Ashoora, the tenth day of Muharram, a caparisoned elephant conveys the Bibi-ka-Alam in hyderabad and a decked pachyderm carries the idol of Goddess Chamundeshwari in Mysore. Now the religious practices of the two faiths diverge significantly. However, Muharram, which ushers in the new Islamic year, is significant both historically and religiously in Hyderabad. The highlight of Muharram, Azadari (mourning), in particular, is a topic unto itself. Public displays of mourning and weeping are a tradition that dates back to Hyderabad.
