Congress mp Gaurav Gogoi on wednesday (July 26) gave notice of no-confidence motion against the Modi government at the Center to lok sabha Speaker Om Birla. It was approved by the lok sabha speaker. In fact, the opposition is constantly demanding prime minister Narendra Modi's statement in parliament on the issue of ethnic violence in Manipur.

As per the rules, it is believed that the no-confidence motion can be discussed in the parliament next week. With the beginning of the monsoon session, proceedings in both the Houses of the parliament have been disrupted due to the uproar by the opposition. On wednesday (July 26) too, the proceedings of lok sabha and rajya sabha were adjourned till 12 o'clock.

 After receiving the notice of the no-confidence motion, the lok sabha speaker will see whether the notice is supported by at least 50 MPs as per the rules and then he will fix a time and date for discussing the issue.

Any lok sabha mp can bring a motion of no confidence provided that mp has signatures of more than 50 lok sabha members.

 Article 198 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of the lok sabha deals with the procedure for bringing a no-confidence motion. According to this rule, the lok sabha member will have to give written notice before 10 am to bring such a motion, after which the speaker will fix the day, time and date.
