It will also benefit the people: In the wake of minister Shivananda Patil's handing over of monsoon rains, the government has taken action through the regional commissioner of belgaum division to allow 2.50 TMC of water to be used for the multi-village drinking water projects of the district in the water storage of Alamatti Reservoir for the purpose of drinking water for the people and livestock of the district. Through this, the minister of Sugar, Agriculture Product Marketing and Textile Ministry Shivananda Patila said that the lakes of the district will be filled with water through the canal.
Speaking to the newspaper on friday over phone from Bangalore, he said that there is water shortage due to lack of rain in some taluks of the district. Due to this there is no water for people and livestock. In some places, water is being supplied by tankers. Water is not being supplied by tanker anywhere in Basavanbagewadi constituency. Alamatty reservoir in the district has reached 517.41 m as on July 31 due to rains in Maharashtra. The KBJNL Superintendent engineer has submitted a report that the total storage reached is 89.711 TMC and Jiva Jal 72.091 TMC is likely to be available for use.
