You have made the supreme court a post office…!?

A person from kerala has filed a petition in the supreme court, urging that the Vande Bharat Express train be stopped in his home district. Expressing displeasure over the petitioner's appeal, the court said that you have converted the apex court into a post office. Now you want us to decide where the train will stop? After Vande Bharat, you would also like to stop the Delhi-Mumbai Rajdhani Express. The court clearly said that this is a policy matter, you go to the authorities.

Who's listening?

The petition to stop the Vande Bharat train at Tirur has been heard by the bench of Chief Justice of india DY Chandrachud, Justice PS Narasimha, and Justice Manoj Mishra. The bench was hearing a petition filed by 39-year-old kerala advocate PT Sheejeesh. Sheejish demanded that the stoppage of the Vande Bharat train should be in his home district Tirur as well. Hearing this, Chief Justice DY Chandrachud reprimanded us and said you want us to decide where the Vande Bharat train will stop? Should we stop the Delhi-Mumbai Rajdhani ahead? This is a policy matter, go to the authorities.

The petitioner argued that the supreme court should at least ask the government to consider this representation but the CJI said that he would not interfere as it would appear that the court has taken cognizance of the matter. The petitioner alleged that Malappuram is densely populated and many people depend on train services for their travel, yet a stop has not been allotted for the district. Tirur was allotted a stop on behalf of Malappuram district but the indian Railways withdrew the stop and instead allotted another railway station - Shornur in palakkad district. It is about 56 km from Tirur. Alleged that this was done for political reasons. He argued that the failure to allot stops at Tirur railway station is an injustice to the people of Malappuram and hence ignoring their requests and demands causes great prejudice. The supreme court said that the stops to be given for the train is a matter which has to be determined by the Railways. No person has an inherent right to demand that a particular train should stop at a particular station. The very purpose of setting up high-speed trains will be defeated if any person in every district starts demanding to provide a stop at the railway station of his choice. Railway stops should not be provided on demand on the basis of impersonal or vested interests, Especially for high-speed express trains like the Vande Bharat train. If stops are provided on public demand then the term express train itself will become a misnomer. Vande Bharat trains run from thiruvananthapuram at one end of the state to Kasaragod and back on the same day. Please tell that before the supreme court, the kerala High court has also dismissed the petition.
