In the recently concluded 191st Annual Representative Meeting (ARM) of the british Medical Association (BMA) in the United Kingdom, a doctor from hyderabad was successful in passing a resolution to stop the use of the term "Junior doctor" in the UK. According to a news release, Dr. Sai ram Pillarisetti, a doctor from hyderabad who currently practises in the UK, filed a proposal to stop using the term "junior doctor," which was totally approved and had strong support from all sides of the elected BMA representative body.

Dr. Sai ram Pillarisetti claimed in his speech that the name "Junior Doctor" was deceptive. He claimed that it was deceptive to the general public and frequently did not do these doctors—many of whom had been in practise for more than 10 years—justice.

"To the general public, the term 'junior doctor' may indicate a lack of knowledge or skill, leading to a misunderstanding of the work we do and the credentials we possess. It makes it difficult to distinguish between junior trainees who have just graduated from medical school and senior trainees, many of whom have more than ten years of experience and many post-graduate degrees, the physician claimed.
