Court Refuses Interim Bail To minister Senthil Balaji..?

Senthil Balaji, a minister for the tamil Nadu government, was denied temporary bail today by the madras High court, although his family was granted permission to move him to the private Kauvery Hospital for medical care. The habeas corpus plea brought by Meghala, Balaji's wife, was decided on by the justices J. nisha Banu and Bharatha Chakravarthy.

The question would be whether all the processes had been followed and whether there had been any illegality, the court stated, given that a challenge had been made to the way he had been arrested. The court informed the respondent authorities that it will consider the petition and that it needed their responses by june 22.

There is no issue about extending his bail. He will remain under judicial detention. The court stated that the petitioner's request to be transferred from the government hospital to the private Kauvery hospital in the city can be allowed because he claims to have a regular doctor there.

While granting the transfer against ED's objections, the court also mandated that the medical team assembled by ED be able to routinely check on Balaji's progress at the private hospital.
