The State administration is preparing to release an astounding 85.6 crore fishlings and an extra 10 crore prawn seedlings into 26,357 water bodies dispersed around the area as the monsoon season approaches. Under the fish distribution plan for current fiscal, bids have already been requested for the delivery of fishlings and prawns at a total estimated cost of Rs 107 crore.
Fishlings worth Rs 82.35 crore will be released into 26,357 water bodies, including reservoirs, tanks, and other aquatic ecosystems, as part of this programme, which is intended to accelerate the Blue Revolution being led by the State. In addition, 300 significant water bodies would receive prawn seeds worth Rs 24.6 crore for cultivation. With a total area of 5.73 lakh square kilometres distributed across several water bodies, including reservoirs, telangana is proud to have the third biggest inland water spread in the nation.

The telangana government started the free distribution of fish seedlings in about 11,067 water bodies during 2017–18 in an effort to increase fish output and promote the sustainable lifestyles of fishermen. This led to the stocking of around 51.08 million fish seedlings at a cost of Rs 44.6 crore, producing 2.62 lakh tonnes of fish over an 8–10 month period.
Since then, there have been noticeably more fishlings and prawns discharged into reservoirs and other bodies of water. telangana is now ranked fifth in the world for the production of freshwater fish, with a projected value of Rs 6,100 crore in 2022–2023. In comparison to the Rs 1,993 crore in fish output that was reported in 2017–18, this indicates a threefold increase. Prawn output increased significantly during the same time period, going from 7.78 tonnes valued at Rs 171.23 crore in 2017–18 to 11,734 tonnes valued at almost Rs 425 crore in 2022–23.
