The supreme court received a key report regarding MPs, MLAs and other public representatives accused in various criminal cases. Amicus curia senior lawyer Vijay Hansaria has recently reported to the supreme court that many criminal cases filed against public representatives like MPs and MLAs are pending for more than five years.

Hansaria recommended that cases related to criminal cases against public representatives are pending for more than five years and should be tried in the lower courts first. It is recommended that the courts should issue orders to take up other cases after hearing the cases against the public representatives. Hansaria asked the supreme court to take up the investigation of cases related to sitting public representatives first. It is known that bjp leader lawyer ashwini Kumar Upadhyay has filed a public interest litigation in the supreme court seeking speedy trial of cases against public representatives.

The supreme court has appointed Vijay Hansaria as amicus curiae in these cases. He recently submitted a 40-page report with key recommendations to the court. In his report, he recommended setting up a committee headed by a former judge of the supreme court or a former Chief Justice of the high court to find out how far the investigation of cbi ED cases has come. He said that so far the details of the cases against the public representatives have not been sent by 9 High Courts including Telangana. It is stated that only 16 High Courts have granted them.

In Andhra Pradesh, the special court in vijayawada has 92 cases against public representatives. It is noteworthy that the report said that 50 cases are more than 5 years old. Vijay Hansaria revealed in his report that there are a total of 121 cbi cases against MPs/MLAs. Among them, 51 MLAs and 112 MPs are accused. In these 58 cases, life imprisonment is possible. In 45 cases, charges have not been filed yet.
