What is the reason behind this protest by students?

Jaffna university students protested against the arrest of former Northern Provincial Council member T. Ravikaran and social activist Rathinarasa Mayuran by the Mullaitivu police last night. The people of Thannimurpu and Kumumumuna areas took out a massive demonstration in Kurundurmalai yesterday against the efforts of the Department of Archeology to expropriate 632 acres of native land belonging to the tamil people surrounding Thannimuruppu and Kurundurmalai and the Buddhist construction is being carried out in defiance of the court order.



The Mullaitivu police called Durairasa Ravikaran and E. Mayuran to the police station yesterday evening to investigate the complaints made by the officials of the Department of Archeology against many people, including the former member of the Northern Province Assembly, Durairasa Ravikaran, and the former chairman of Karaithuraipattu multi-purpose cooperative society and social activist member Rathinarasa Mayuran.


The police had arrested the two who had gone to the police station last night. While it is said that the Mullaitivu police were taking steps to arrest many others, they suddenly jumped into the protest today.As a continuation of their protest, they held a rally and jumped into the protest by blocking the road.
