It is known that potato has been the favorite food of indians for many years. In this situation, the potato is not only the favorite food of indians but it is also the main export item for Indians. Especially potato chips are exported from gujarat to foreign countries and the main reason for that is the structure made by today's prime minister Modi when he was the chief minister of gujarat is notable.
Potatoes have been one of the staple foods of indians for many years. Especially potato chips are a favorite food for everyone from kids to adults. india imported 6 thousand metric tons of potato chips in 2007 and has grown to export about 30,000 tons of potato chips in 2019. It is noteworthy that most of the potato chips exported from india are exported from the state of Gujarat. gujarat harvests only 7.72% of India's total potato production. But it is said that the only reason why this state has become so high in exports is the achievement of today's prime minister narendra modi when he was the chief minister of the state.
When narendra modi was the chief minister of gujarat, he sanctioned three big potato food factories. McCain Foods, ISKCON balaji Foods, and Hyphen Foods are the three food companies that are currently holding the record in potato exports. Haresh Karamchandani, CEO of Hyphen Foods said that india started exporting potato chips called french fries in 2015. McCain Foods, ISKCON balaji Foods, and Hyphen Foods have the capacity to export 5,000 MT of potatoes per year. Thus, gujarat plays an important role in the export of frozen potato products from India.
India's frozen potato products reached a market value of nearly $1.10 billion in 2020, and this market is expected to grow by 17 percent during 2022-27.
