Ramalingam hails from Periya Nesalur near Veypur in the Cuddalore district. His daughter Srimathi (age 17). She was studying in a hostel at a private matriculation high school in Kaniyamur, near Chinnasalem, Kallakurichi district. She was found dead mysteriously in the school on the 13th. Demanding justice for the student's death, the protest on the 17th erupted into riots. Rioters torched school buses and police vehicles and looted school supplies.
 A special investigation team consisting of police officers Radha Krishnan, Muthumanikam, and Chandramouli was formed under the leadership of praveen Kumar DIG Abhinav to arrest those involved in the riot. The group held a consultation meeting at the Special police Force office in Ulundurpet, Bali.
Later in the school, last evening D.I.G. A team led by praveen Kumar Abhinav was involved in the study. There, rioters visited vandalized school buildings and classrooms. They were divided into 3 groups, one group was to calculate the damage to the school and the vehicle burnt in the fire. A team is going to examine the CCTV and camera footage of the tollgates around Kallakurichi and on the way to the school to find out where the rioters came from.

The cause of this riot is that ravikumar earned opposition from various parties. The investigation is ongoing. The investigation into the death of the student is also going on from various angles.
