EB charges rise in
tamil Nadu..!?
Minister Senthil
balaji has announced changes in the
electricity tariff in
tamil Nadu. He further said that Out of 2.37 crore
house electricity consumers in
tamil Nadu, one crore consumers (42.19 percent) have not seen any increase in
electricity tariff. Free
electricity will continue to be provided to all household consumers for up to 100 units. As per the
election promise, residential
electricity consumers are fully exempted from paying level charges of Rs.20 to Rs.50 for 2 months. This will benefit 2.37 crore household
electricity consumers and the current
electricity subsidy provided to cottage agriculture, handloom, power loom and places of worship will continue.
At present, a total of Rs.1,130 is charged as
electricity to consumers who use up to 500 units of household electricity. But when the
electricity consumption increases from 500 units to 501, the amount of
electricity bill has increased by 58.10 percent to a total of Rs.1,786.
electricity consumers are paying an extra Rs.656.60 even if they use one unit of more than 500 units. These differences are totally taken and a single
electricity charge is given. At present,
electricity charges for libraries operating in rural areas are calculated at Rs.5.75 per unit and Rs.60 per month as standard charges. Provision has been made to reduce
electricity charges for non-commercial libraries by 30 percent calculated on the non-subsidized household rate list to improve literacy among the public.
For 3 percent (2.26 lakh) of small and micro-enterprise power consumers, a minimum hike of 50 paise per unit is proposed. 53 percent (19.28 lakh) of commercial power consumers are proposed to hike only Rs.50 per month. A small increase of Rs.1 per unit is proposed for private educational institutes. Powerloom consumers will continue to be provided with free
electricity for up to 750 units. After the last 8 years, it is proposed to raise only Rs.1.15 per unit at a low level for low voltage industries.
In power tariff for high voltage industries, only 40 paise per unit is proposed to be hiked.
electricity tariff for railways and
government educational institutes is proposed to be hiked by only 65 paise per unit. For high-voltage commercial segment consumers, the power tariff is proposed to increase by a minimum of 50 paise per unit.
It is proposed to implement 100 units of free
electricity and
electricity subsidy for reduced
electricity if the consumer wants it through the scheme of "self-surrender of
electricity subsidy". It is intended that residential consumers will charge their electric
vehicles at
home at the same rate schedule and similarly, commercial consumers will charge public at the same rate schedule," he said.
