Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative assembly Edappadi Palanisamy has asked the tamil Nadu government to immediately stop the karnataka government's attempt to build a new dam in Megha Dadu.

New dam

The karnataka government has taken steps to allocate Rs 1000 crore to build a dam in Megha Dadu. AIADMK co-ordinator and leader of the Opposition in the Legislative assembly Edappadi Palanisamy has accused the DMK government of remaining silent on the issue. In his statement, he said an all-party meeting was held in Bangalore on 18.3.2022 under the chairmanship of karnataka Chief minister Basavaraj Bomma to discuss the construction of a new dam at Megha Dadu across the Cauvery River.

He told a news conference that a unanimous decision had been taken to build a new dam at Meghadau across the Cauvery River immediately. He also met the Union minister for Water Resources in delhi and briefed him on the outcome of the all-party meeting in Karnataka.

Government of tamil Nadu in silence

On behalf of the All india Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, he strongly condemned the karnataka government's attempt to build a new dam, saying the karnataka government had allocated Rs 1,000 crore in this year's financial statement for the construction of a dam in Meghadau.

The DMK government did not realize that the karnataka government would block the Cauvery water available to tamil Nadu by building a dam in Megha Dadu and allocated funds in the budget for the construction of a new dam in Megha Dadu. He said it was unacceptable to remain silent and betray the people of tamil Nadu without expressing any opposition to the all-party meeting held yesterday.

Fear that the family business will be affected?

He also said that the people of tamil Nadu were wondering if this government was acting out of fear that their families would be affected by the industries in Karnataka. He has asked the government to formally pursue the case in the supreme court over the Megha Dadu dam issue and stop the efforts of the karnataka government.

Edappadi Palanisamy has urged the government to appoint senior legal experts to protect the rights of tamil Nadu without compromising on the legal battles waged by the Amma's government over the Kaveri, Mullaperiyar and Megha Dadu issues.
