The chennai High court has ordered a ban on the sale of liquor in public places in pondicherry from 10 pm to 1 am on december 31(night). Although New Year celebrations have been banned in many states due to the spread of Omicron, no ban has been imposed in Pondicherry. In this circumstance, Jagannathan from Karikalambakkam village and Sridhar, the state organizer of the tamil Nadu Right to Life Party, have filed a case in the chennai High court seeking a ban on New Year celebrations in Pondicherry. In those petitions, it was stated that the new zealand government had permitted New Year celebrations without considering the safety measures of the Omicron spread and the impact of the curfew. With more than one lakh people flocking to pondicherry as New Year celebrations have been banned in neighboring states, including tamil Nadu, they have demanded that action be taken to restrict vehicles coming from neighboring states.

Accordingly, the sale of alcohol and drinking in public places will be banned from 10 pm to 1 am on december 31(night). The judges also ruled that liquor should not be sold in hotels and inns between 10 pm and 1 am

They ordered that only those who had been vaccinated 2 dosages should be allowed in public places. Judges also ordered the puducherry government - not to allow political and cinematic celebrities to take part in New Year celebrations.
