After fortifying the Baby Dam, Water Resources minister Duraimurugan has stated that steps will be done to boost the water level of the Mullaiperiyaru Dam to 152 feet. The supreme court determined in 2014 that the Mullai Periyar Dam's water level might rise to 142 feet. However, due to kerala government complaints over several dam problems, the water level only reached to 142 feet three times in 2014, 2015, and 2018.

Annamalai, a tamil Nadu bjp leader, has accused the tamil Nadu government of doing nothing about the Mullai Periyar Dam issue. "Tamil Nadu farmers would get 10 TMC of water only when the water level of the Mullaiperiyaru dam reaches 142 feet, and only 5 TMC of water when the water level reaches 136 feet," tamil Nadu bjp leader annamalai said at a press conference in Trichy. The DMK government, which presently holds power, has made no steps to raise the dam's water level to 142 feet. They've given a verbal order to open the sluice gates at 136 feet and are now looking at each other blankly.

Due to severe rainfall, the water level in the catchment region climbed to 138.70 feet in the last two weeks. kerala opened water to their state on the 29th, despite concerns about the dam's strength. tamil Nadu, which has the right to open water, was outspoken in its objection to Kerala's arbitrary path. Farmers in five districts began to fight each other in various ways. The AIADMK, AIADMK, and bjp were among the parties who criticised the move.
