Due to prolonged high rains in the Puthur district, crops cultivated on 600 acres in Iyan Vadamalapuram village were inundated. Due to the present rabi season, farmers in the Thoothukudi district have been farming various crops such as black gramme, algae, rye, maize, onion, and chilli throughout the month of Purattasi. They were working in the fields in preparation for the monsoon in the month of Purattasi.
Crops germinated in some communities with some dampness in the beginning. However, when the rains continued to fall, the crops began to wilt. Farmers have been ploughing and seeding the ground for the past month. They ploughed for the third time, the rain falling again. Meanwhile, for the past week, the northeast monsoon has been raining. Since last night, localities like as Nagalapuram, Reguramapuram, Keelakkaranthai, Velaval Thothi, Pudupatti, Ayan Vadamalapuram, and Achankulam have been experiencing constant rain.
As a result, the water levels in the communities are rapidly rising, including ponds, puddles, and uruni.
