According to Union minister Rajnath Singh, Savarkar wrote a mercy appeal to the british government at mahatma Gandhi's request, which is a historical fact. Yesterday, Veera Savarkar's autobiography was launched in Delhi. Union Defense minister Rajnath Singh was present at the ceremony. In that regard, Veera Savarkar is the nation's icon. Savarkar has been a key figure in emphasising the country's security and establishing diplomatic policy.

He will be recognised as a symbol of indian history for all time. It's sad that negative opinions about him are being disseminated. Savarkar has been misrepresented by Marxists as a fascist. This is not acceptable. He was a fierce nationalist and a freedom warrior. It is a myth that Savarkar wrote an English-language apology letter to the rulers. At mahatma Gandhi's urging, Savarkar wrote a mercy appeal to the british authorities. This is a fact of history.

Asaduddin Owaisi, a lok sabha MP, slammed Rajnath Singh's comments on Savarkar. According to Owaisi, "The bharatiya janata party is presenting a skewed version of history. If this persists, mahatma gandhi would be deposed and Savarkar will be proclaimed the nation's dad. Savarkar was accused of assassinating mahatma gandhi and was found guilty in the Justice jeevan Lal Kapur probe."
