Will the Monetization plan lead to Unemployment?
The Monetization Pipeline will lease central government ministries and state-owned firms' infrastructure assets to construct new infrastructure. On Tuesday, congress leader rahul gandhi called the government's ambitious system of monetization of public assets as an attempt to establish a monopoly. It may cut more employment opportunities and wipe the informal sector out. He also warned against social tension and violence due to unemployment.
Are we losing "Our Crown Jewels of India?
"We don't oppose privatisation. Our privatisation by the UPA (government) had a logic, and the strategic industry such as railways had no privatisation. All this privatisation is designed to create monopolies. He said that he claimed the government was "selling the crown jewels of India." We all are aware of who owns and gets airports. The Monetary Pipeline will lease infrastructure assets from the government ministries and state-owned firms to build 6 trillion more funds to construct new infrastructure, as Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced on Monday.Among projects, the government plans to lease are 26,700km of roads, 90 passenger trains, 400 railway stations, 28,608 circuit km transmission lines, 286,000km of Bharatnet fibre network and 14,917 towers owned by state-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd and Mahanagar Telecom Nigam Ltd.
Gandhi compared the government’s move with british Raj’s east India Company and said, “Modi believes large monopolies can save this country. A dramatic increase in anger and violence will be noted. Modi is an instrument for doing some particular job for these people.”
