According to minister of State (MoS) for External Affairs v Muraleedharan, almost 2300 women have been abandoned and divorced by their nri spouses. Muraleedharan provided the data in response to a question given by aam aadmi party (AAP) mp Raghav Chadha. According to him, they had about 2372 complaints from foreign women. In the previous five years, each of them was abandoned. At least one distress call is made every eight hours, the administration informed the parliament in 2018.

To address problems like domestic violence, harassment, and other matrimonial conflicts experienced by married nri women, the government has set in place a number of procedures. The minister added that the indian consulate operates a 24-hour hotline for emergencies.

Another alarming incident included a Gujarati woman from ahmedabad accusing her nri husband of forcing her to engage in improper sex. The 35-year-old lady brought the complaint on monday to the Satellite police station. She claimed in the complaint that her husband deserted her in New South Wales, Australia, because she objected to unnatural sex.
