Indians make ripples with Bharatanatyam

Indians are often known for the tradition and culture. Bharatanatyam is one of our cultural dance. Most of us doesn't know what impact does it have on millions of people. 


Now Mother - Daughters trio has made a stage performance and has created ripples in USA. Minneapolis-based Ranee Ramaswamy and his daughters, Aparna and Ashwini, are a unique family. The Mother and daughters are Bharatanatyam dancers for close to 30 years. Ranee hails from Kerala and she was raised in Chennai. 


She learned the art of classical dance from her childhood days. She later moved to USA and there she met her spiritual guru and master, Padma Bhushan Alarmel Valli. The meeting took place at Minneapolis in 1983. From Alarmel Valli, Ranee and her daughters learned the nuances of Bharatanatyam. 


They also learned the art of various interpretations. Now the mother and daughter trio performs at various stages. They also have their own dance academy 'Ragamala' in USA. Ranee was appointed as a member of the prestigious National Council on Arts by US President Barack Obama in 2013.
