According to news agency PTI, a sessions court in mumbai has issued a non-bailable warrant against filmmaker ram gopal varma, rejecting his plea to suspend his jail sentence in the check bounce case. Earlier, on january 21, Andheri-based Judicial Magistrate (First Class) Y P Pujari had convicted ram gopal varma in this case.
On behalf of ram gopal varma, his lawyer, Durendra K.H. Sharma had applied for bail in the court. The lawyer had submitted two separate applications, one for bail and the other for a stay of sentence. However due to Verma's absence, both these petitions were rejected by the court.Nowthe next hearing in this case will be heldon July 28. During this time, the report of the execution of the arrest warrant against the producer will also be presented.
The case stems from a complaint filed by a company named Shree through Maheshchandra Mishra against ram Gopal Varma's firm in 2018, alleging that a cheque issued by ram gopal varma had bounced due to a lesser amount. The director was granted bail in june 2022 after he furnished a personal bond and a security deposit of Rs 5,000. The magistrate clarified that there would be no 'set-off' under Section 428 of the Code of criminal Procedure, as ram gopal varma was not in custody during the trial. After several hearings and legal proceedings, the court ruled against the filmmaker and said there was sufficient evidence to prove the allegations.
