Perhaps Gauri once changed Shahrukh Khan's name to Abhinav before marriage. Actually, Gauri was from a Hindu Brahmin family, while Shah Rukh was a Muslim, so religion became a big issue in their marriage. Since their religious beliefs were different, Gauri's parents were against their marriage. Apart from this, Shah Rukh had entered bollywood and was also struggling to make his mark in the industry.
Moreover in a throwback interview with Abu Jani and sandeep Khosla on their show, First Ladies, gauri khan talked about all the difficulties she data-faced during her marriage with Shah Rukh. During this, she revealed that she changed Shah Rukh's name to Abhinav to convince his parents that he was a Hindu boy. Gauri had told, "We changed his name to Abhinav so that they would think that he is a Hindu boy, but it was really silly and very childish." At the time of Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri's marriage, many in Gauri's family were worried that Shah Rukh might pressure her to convert to Islam. In an interview with Farida Jalal, Shah Rukh revealed, "I remember when Gauri's traditional family was sitting there, whispering, 'He's a Muslim boy. Will he change her name? Will she become a Muslim?' So, I jokingly said, 'Okay Gauri, wear your burqa, and let's pray namaaz.' The whole family was staring at us, thinking that I had already converted her religion. I teased them and said, 'From now on she will wear a burqa all the time and her name will be Ayesha.'
