Union sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya wrote a letter to gymnast Dipa karmakar on wednesday and expressed surprise at her decision to retire from the sport. Dipa, who impressed in the Rio olympics 2016, recently said goodbye to her international career. 31-year-old Dipa was India's first female gymnast to participate in the Olympics. She missed the medal by a very narrow margin and finished fourth.
The sports Minister said that the whole country is proud of Dipa who regularly performs the very difficult Produnova vault. Mandaviya said, your adding a new chapter to indian gymnastics by participating in the olympics and becoming the first indian woman to participate in this sport is not only the result of your hard work but is a matter of pride for the whole country, especially your performance in the Produnova vault has been unique. Your achievements have not only inspired sports lovers but have also given courage to our daughters inparticular to realize their dreams in sports.
