Birthday Special: Ayushmann Khurrana’s andhadhun Breaks box office Records

Bollywood has seen many blockbuster thrillers, from the suspenseful Kahaani starring vidya balan to the horror-comedy Stree, featuring Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, and Pankaj Tripathi. These films have captivated audiences with their intense narratives and cinematic brilliance. In 2018, andhadhun joined the ranks of such cinematic triumphs. Directed by sriram Raghavan, this black comedy thriller became an instant hit.
Andhadhun stars ayushmann khurrana as Akash, a pianist who pretends to be blind. His life takes a dramatic turn when he witnesses a murder while performing at the home of Simi (played by Tabu), the wife of a former actor. Unbeknownst to him, he becomes entangled in a murder mystery. As the plot unfolds, it’s revealed that Akash’s blindness is a facade, leading to a gripping game of deception and survival as Simi attempts to cover up the crime. The film is renowned for its unexpected twists, dark humor, and stellar performances, particularly by ayushmann khurrana, Tabu, and radhika Apte. It delves into themes of morality, perception, and survival, continually blurring the lines between reality and illusion.
Ayushmann Khurrana’s portrayal in andhadhun earned him the National Award for Best Actor. Interestingly, Khurrana was not the producers' initial choice; Harshvardhan Kapoor, son of Anil Kapoor, was originally offered the role. After Kapoor declined, the role went to Khurrana.
The film was made on a modest budget of Rs 32 crore but went on to gross Rs 440 crore worldwide. andhadhun has an IMDb rating of 8.2 stars and has been remade in several indian languages. It was adapted into telugu as Maestro, starring Nithiin and Nabha Natesh, and recently released in tamil as Andhagan, featuring Prashanth. Both remakes have received positive reviews, continuing the legacy of the original film.
