The acclaimed horror-drama Tumbbad is making a return to theaters six years after its initial release, and the excitement doesn’t stop there. sohum shah, the film’s leading actor and producer, has announced the sequel, Tumbbad 2. He shared the news with fans through a teaser video on social media, heightening anticipation for the next installment in the franchise.

The re-release of Tumbbad has reignited interest in this fantasy folklore classic, with enthusiastic responses from audiences across the country. The sequel announcement has only fueled this excitement further. On september 14, sohum shah posted a teaser on instagram featuring a foreboding scene where a character warns of an impending disaster. The teaser includes a voiceover by Shah, saying: “Samay ka pahiya gol hai, jo beet gaya woh fir laut ke aayega… darwaaza bhi ek baar phir khulega” (Time never stops. history repeats itself… The door will open once again). The teaser concludes with the ominous phrase “Pralay, Pralay phir aayega” (Disaster will strike… it will strike once again), suggesting a grand and intense sequel.

sohum shah expressed his enthusiasm about the sequel to IANS, stating, “Tumbbad has been a special journey and a labor of love for us. Seeing the continued affection for the film confirms our belief that content is king. With Tumbbad 2, we aim to push the cinematic experience further, exploring deeper into our created world with bigger twists and a more intense examination of limitless greed.”

Fans can expect Tumbbad 2 to delve even further into the fantasy folklore, promising a more captivating and darker narrative within its mythical universe. Details about the sequel are still under wraps.

Meanwhile, Tumbbad’s re-release has been met with strong box office interest. According to Pinkvilla, the film sold 21,000 tickets across the top three national theater chains for its opening day. PVR Inox led with 15,000 tickets, Cinepolis followed with 6,000, and MovieMax sold 1,000 tickets. Early projections suggest the film could earn around ₹1 crore on its first day, depending on ticket sales.

sohum shah also released a new trailer for the re-release, showcasing the haunting visuals that fans can expect. He announced the re-release date on instagram with the caption: “Sacchai, acchai, burai aur lalach, har yug mein inhi ki kahaniyan dohrayee jaati hain, aisi hi ek kahani dohrane ka samay phir aa gaya hai. Tumbbad Re-release Trailer Out Now. Experience Tumbbad in cinemas again on 13th september, 2024.”
