The brother of the accused told the media, 'I am abhishek Thapan from Sukhchen village. Anuj Thapan was my brother. 6-7 days ago mumbai police took him from Sangrur. We received a call from them in which it was told that Anuj had committed suicide. He was not one of those who committed suicide. He was murdered by the police. We want justice. He used to work as a truck helper.

Sarpanch Manoj Godra of Anuj Thapan's village has also raised questions on such sudden death. He said, 'This death is creating suspense. He had two brothers, a sister and a mother. He doesn't have a father. Anuj used to ask for help from the truck driver. mumbai police took him away without informing the Panchayat. The family was also informed after 1-2 days. We know how much security there will be among the police, yet how can someone commit suicide?
