AR Murugadoss on a Comeback Trail

Renowned kollywood filmmaker a r murugadoss is attempting a sort of return with a high-profile movie starring tamil actor Siva Karthikeyan, for which he has signed music superstar Anirudh Ravichandar to compose the soundtrack. "After a hiatus, he is making a comeback to deliver a blockbuster and resume his career," a distributor says, adding, "Murugadoss is skilled at crafting action adventures with social messages at their core; his films Sarkar and ramana would attest to this."

In reality, murugadoss made his telugu film debut with the action movie "Stalin," starring chiranjeevi, but the film fell short of the lofty standards set for it. He notes, "He was going to direct chiranjeevi in 'Tagore,' which was a remake of his hit tamil film 'Ramana.' However, he went back to hollywood to work with chiranjeevi on 'Stalin.'"

Actually, murugadoss became popular in telugu with the success of his film "Ghajini," which starred Suirya. However, later films like "Tuppaki" and "7th Sense" performed mediocrely in telugu regions. He notes that although he had worked with tamil celebrities like Vijay and Suriya, his much-awaited film "Darbar," starring Rajnikanth, was a box office bomb that hurt his ratings. He also had the chance to collaborate with telugu superstar mahesh babu on the film "Spyder," but the bilingual version failed to live up to the hype and was a box office disaster. "He might collaborate with a tollywood celebrity sooner rather than later," he says.
