India's most expensive TV show - Bigger than Baahubali and RRR
Over the past 20 years, indian cinema production expenses have increased substantially. Nowadays, large films often cost more than Rs 200 crore. Gone are the days when a picture costing Rs 40 crore was deemed huge. Surprisingly, indian television series have also caught up, and in some cases, have even outperformed indian cinema. As an example, the most costly indian tv series ever produced was more expensive than all but three indian films.
The historical drama Porus, which aired from 2017 to 2018, is thought to be the most costly tv programme ever produced in India. With a staggering expenditure of Rs 500 crore, the 249-episode series has the biggest production and marketing costs in indian television history. Large-scale fight sequences in outdoor settings, sophisticated sets, and visual effects were primarily responsible for the exorbitant production costs. The two monarchs shown in the performance were Alexander the Great of greece and Porus of India.

The biggest problem about the programme when Porus was cast was how huge celebrities were missing. Laksh Lalwani played the lead in the television programme. Up until then, the actor had not portrayed a lead in a television programme. Although not a household name in the tv industry, Alexander's actor, Rohit Purohit, was well-known. However, the show was such a hit that sony tv, the network that aired it, decided to create a spinoff after it concluded. A spinoff/sequel called Chandragupta Maurya ran from 2018 to 2019.
