An Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) in the chennai suburb of Avadi derailed at least four empty coaches early on Tuesday, according to a Southern Railway official. No casualties were immediately reported. The incident happened while the train headed to beach station from Ananur shed and arrived at Avadi. According to sources, the train derailed close to Hindu college station instead of stopping at Avadi station.
When officials arrived, preliminary information indicated that a derailment could have happened during a track change. They then started clearing the track. The train had left the shed and was scheduled to pick up passengers at the Avadi railway station, thus no casualties were recorded. Many trains have had a three-hour delay as a result of the accident.
