Hero Nikhil sent an open letter about "SPY" in which he apologised to the viewers but did not label the movie a failure. However, he made it clear that he would never, under any circumstances, sacrifice quality. Everyone then started talking about the pressure Nikhil was under to make this movie as a result.
The main issue with Spy is that the writing is unoriginal and the premise is formulaic and repetitive. One may ask why Nikhil chose it, but the essential point is that producer Rajasekhar Reddy, who wrote the story, had more faith in it than the protagonist or the story itself. The editor of blockbuster films including HIT, Evaru, The Ghazi Attack, and many more is director Garry BH. What astonished everyone was how an editor with good shot selection skills and storytelling abilities could not produce even one memorable moment in Spy.
Since Nikhil made a public declaration about quality, the producer and director are under enormous pressure to uphold that standard with their upcoming film. It will undoubtedly be difficult for this producer and director to demonstrate their ability with their following projects, given Nikhil's comment placed the whole burden on them.
