2022 has delivered readers some of the most memorable horror comic debuts in a year that featured some of the best comics in recent memory. In the realm of comics, the horror subgenre has always had a significant presence. They gained prominence in the 1950s thanks to ec Comics collections like Tales From the Crypt and Vault of horror, which led to the establishment of the contentious Comics Code Authority, which had a significant negative effect on the industry.
After the CCA was changed in the early 1970s, writers were permitted to explore the boundaries of terror on the pages of a comic book, which led to a rise in popularity for the genre. Today, there are a tonne of fresh and ongoing horror comics that have catered to consumers' cravings for the frightful. Here are the top new horror comics that have just come out this year.
The Vineyard - Brian Hawkins & Sami Rivela - AfterShock Comics
Sadly, AfterShock's run as a comics publisher came to an end in 2022 after they filed for bankruptcy in December, but not before producing an outstanding new horror story. The Vineyard centres on a Virginian family that runs a winery with a sinister secret. They must make four sacrifices to the deity Dionysus each year in order to maintain the crop. It's a well-known story of murder and sacrifice that gave movies like The Wicker Man their enormous popularity. It becomes an interesting story about bucking harmful traditions, though, when it is revealed that the disagreement originates from within the family rather than from the viewpoint of an outsider.
