Hindi consumers' current preferred "south" content is demonstrated by the phenomenal success of bollywood movies like KGF, Baahubali, and RRR. The success of "Arjun Reddy" as "Kabir Singh" in bollywood has also given bollywood filmmakers more confidence that it will be worthwhile to remake telugu or tamil movies. But it turns out that 2022 isn't the right year for them.
Shahid Kapoor accepted the "Jersey" remake after seeing how well kabir singh was doing, but the movie performed poorly at the box office. In a similar vein, the box office failures of the gaddalakonda ganesh remake starring Akshay Kumar, Bachhan Panday; the MCA remake of Nikamma starring a newbie hero; and the same-titled vikram Vedha remake in Tamil. vikram Vedha was also made by the only original directors while jersey was directed by the same telugu filmmaker, but things still didn't work out. Even though it was immediately available on OTT, Janhvi Kapoor's version of Nayan's Kolamavu Kokila as "Good Luck Jerry" hasn't failed to pique people' interest.
Aamir Khan has this year produced a version of the Oscar-winning hollywood film "Forrest Gump," but the movie, titled "Laal Singh Chaddha," has since disappeared into thin air. Similar circumstances apply to Taapsee's Dobaara, an adaptation of the Spanish thriller Mirage. It appears that bollywood will not rely solely on remakes in 2022 because they have a tonne of other projects planned. The fear of remakes is even affecting bollywood actors, who are requesting that telugu and tamil filmmakers approach them with original material.
