doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, according to Benedict Cumberbatch, sets up an intriguing MCU future for his eponymous wizard. Marvel will return to the big screen in less than a week with the sam Raimi-directed film. And, as with most Marvel Studios May releases, the events of doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness are expected to have far-reaching implications for the MCU in the future. Although this is Cumberbatch's second solo feature in the franchise, it is his sixth overall cinematic appearance.

Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) returns in doctor Strange 2 as well as the introduction of America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez). Despite the many moving parts, the MCU sorcerer remains the central character. In Spider-Man: No Way Home, doctor Strange's decision to assist Peter Parker (Tom Holland) has major ramifications for the multiverse's state. Strange's activities, despite his good intentions, get him into trouble with the MCU's version of the Illuminati. It's unclear how everything will be settled at the end of Multiverse of Madness, but Cumberbatch vows that it will pave the way for an exciting doctor Strange future.

In a subsequent interview with Extras, Cumberbatch says he's looking forward to seeing how fans react to doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. This is especially true given the film's events, which foreshadow a bright future for doctor Strange. "I can't wait to see how the fans react to this [Multiverse of Madness] and where it takes Strange...but I think it sets him up for a very optimistic prospect," he remarked.
