The first Scream reviews are in, and critics are gushing over the new installment of the horror series, complimenting the cast and paying tribute to the franchise's past. Due to original director Wes Craven's fluctuating involvement in trying to return to direct, The Weinstein Company's money woes following sexual abuse allegations levied against co-founder Harvey Weinstein, and Craven's death in 2015, a fifth Scream has languished in development hell for over a decade. Woodsboro is once again devastated by a series of murders perpetrated by someone donning the Ghostdata-face mask with the purpose of drawing out secrets from the town's grim history 25 years after the events of the first film.

The film will star Neve Campbell, David Arquette, Courteney Cox, Marley Shelton, and Roger L. Jackson, and will be billed as a rebirth of the franchise. As the release date of Scream approaches, fans have a new cause to be thrilled for the picture. With only a week until the film's release, initial Scream comments are flooding social media, with critics praising the latest edition in the horror genre. The film has received positive reviews for its violent deaths, performances by both new and returning cast members, and for honoring Wes Craven's heritage in the franchise.
