Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui Review - A Bodybuilder's Breezy Love Story

SIBY JEYYA
Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui's revolutionary romance makes some major baby steps, but it's ultimately too basic in its change-is-just-a-heartfelt-speech naiveté. Despite its sympathies for the transgender community, the film is primarily about a man's tolerance of his girlfriend's sexual identity rather than her struggle with one. While I don't share chandigarh Kare Aashiqui's enthusiasm and wonder that someone this unpleasant could suddenly become rational, it's encouraging to see Khurrana not dismiss the poison.

The screenplay by Kapoor, Supratik Sen, and Tushar Paranjpe, based on a story idea by simran Sahni, takes on the problem in an easy-going, appealing manner for a family audience. manu bursts out screaming the first time he hears about Maanvi's past and gender transformation. He is repelled by the thought of having slept with Maanvi, whom he considers to be a man.' His relatives and acquaintances use insulting phrases, which we have unquestioningly internalized as homophobia and transphobia.

Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui communicates its argument subtly, gradually removing the curtain from the characters and their intolerance while maintaining the film's fun and glitz. Throughout chandigarh Kare Aashiqui's 117-minute length, Kapoor's grip as a storyteller rarely slips, which is why the film remains wholesome and pleasant. Maanvi's wealth and good looks place her in a privileged position (the contentious 'passing privilege') and make us question how tough and different her life would be if she didn't have these adornments.

However, Kapoor does not sacrifice the depth and sensitivity required to confront a topic like this for cheap laughs. Vaani imbues her role with a genuine range of emotions. Vaani imbues Maanvi with a calm sense of dignity that the role deserves, as a lady cautious of how she will be seen and striving to live her life by her values. On home ground, Ayushmann plays a punjabi gabru and never makes a false note. His scenes with his friends, performed excellently by identical twins Goutam and gourav Sharma, are also a lot of fun to watch.
