How much do different sections of society spend?

The 2022-23 report gives the average monthly expenditure of people from different sections of society. This report gives the account of the expenditure of people of Scheduled Tribe (ST), scheduled caste (SC), Other Backward Class (OBC) and other categories.

The average MPCE of st group in rural areas is Rs 3016. This expenditure shows that the economic condition of the people in these areas is limited and they use limited means for their daily needs. The average MPCE of st in urban areas is Rs 5414, which is more than in rural areas. Higher expenditure in urban areas reflects the lifestyle and requirement there, although it is less than other urban groups.

People of scheduled caste (SC) group spend slightly more than ST. The average MPCE of sc group is 3474. At the same time, the average MPCE of sc group in urban areas is 5307. There is a slight increase in their expenditure in urban areas.

Other backward classes (OBC) spend more than Scheduled Castes and Tribes. The average MPCE of OBCs in rural areas is 3848. This shows that the economic condition of this group is slightly better than that of Other Backward Classes. The average MPCE of OBCs in urban areas is 6177, which shows that people of OBC group are able to spend in urban areas.
