International Chernobyl Remembrance Day: All you need to know...

The tragedy at Chernobyl still gives me the chills. The Chernobyl nuclear reactor accident had tremendous impact on the local infrastructure, livestock, crops, and millions of people. Not only may radiation exposure be extremely harmful to humans, but it can also have a negative impact on future generations. Generations of people suffered after being exposed to radioactive substances following the Chernobyl nuclear reactor explosion. Every year, people commemorate International Chernobyl Disaster Remembrance Day as a way to honor those who lost their lives in a tragic accident.

Date: april 26 is designated as International Chernobyl Disaster Remembrance Day each year. International Chernobyl Disaster Remembrance Day is observed on friday this year.

History:

The Chernobyl nuclear disaster occurred on april 26, 1986. The accident occurred during a scheduled 20-second shutdown of the nuclear power station, causing a radioactive cloud to spread over the Soviet territory that included Belarus, Ukraine, and Russia. 8.4 million people were exposed to dangerous radioactive substances as a result of the accident. Agricultural land, crops, and animals all suffered significant damage. Approximately 520,000 square kilometers of land were exposed to radioactive substances. The United Nations declared in 2016 that april 26 would be International Chernobyl Disaster Remembrance Day each year.

The Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident, widely regarded as one of the deadliest man-made disasters in global history, cost millions of lives. The day acts as a reminder to strengthen security measures at nuclear power facilities and to never forget the people who lost their lives. The generations are still bearing the scars from their exposure to radioactive substances thirty years after the accident. The day contributes to increasing awareness of the difficulties impacted areas data-face and what we can do to improve their quality of life.
