Street Dog survey to begin soon..! Vaccination plans..!
Following a complaint that the number of stray dogs in chennai has increased, the task of enumerating them is set to begin soon. During the survey, the corporation took steps to provide stray dogs with rabies vaccine and deworming tablets. In the Corporation of chennai, a street dog survey is conducted every three years. Accordingly, street dogs were surveyed in chennai in 2019 and given rabies vaccine and deworming tablets.
From time to time, stray dogs are caught and vaccinated based on complaints from the public. However, it is not possible to confirm whether all stray dogs have been vaccinated against rabies. In the past 2020, with the spread of corona infection, there has been a slight decline in vaccinations for stray dogs. Meanwhile, three years of stray dog surveys have been completed. At present, the public has complained that the harassment of stray dogs has increased in all regions due to the scorching summer sun.
Following the growing number of complaints, the corporation plans to launch a biennial survey of stray dogs soon. In that regard, this year, street dogs are to be surveyed using modern technology. During the survey, steps have been taken to vaccinate dogs against rabies and provide deworming tablets. Through this, the authorities plan to control the proliferation of rabies dogs in the corporation, identify areas where street dog infestation is high and take appropriate action. Corporation officials said: According to a survey conducted in chennai Corporation in 2014, 82 thousand street dogs were found. Then, in 2017, 57 thousand stray dogs were diagnosed and vaccinated. Currently, there may be as many as 60,000 stray dogs. Since stray dogs are naturally circulating among the general population, there is a risk of transmission of the disease from dogs to humans.
To avoid these, every year, the rabies dog should be vaccinated and given a deworming pill. Accordingly, dog sterilization centers are functioning at three locations in the Corporation. Of these, 1,200 stray dogs are neutered each month. Then, the vaccine and the pill are given. These are not given to non-sterilized dogs. Therefore, to provide vaccination and tablets to all stray dogs, stray dogs will be surveyed and the necessary medicines will be procured. This survey work will begin soon. By the end of this year, all street dogs will be vaccinated against rabies and dewormed. dogs that are thus vaccinated will be painted on their bodies to identify them.
Thus they said.
