The name of India's most important strategically important Atal Tunnel Rohtang, prepared with state-of-the-art technology, has been certified by the World Book of Records. Director-General of Border Roads Organization (BRO) Lt Gen rajeev Choudhary received the award.
On october 3, 2020, the following will be inaugurated:
National pride and a visionary project prime minister Narendra Modi dedicated the Atal Tunnel to the nation on october 3, 2020. The strategically vital 9.02 km long Atal Tunnel passes through the 'Rohtang Pass,' which was built on the Manali-Leh route amid difficult conditions of freezing temperatures and severely rough terrain.
This route used to be closed for six months during the winter season, separating Lahaul and Spiti from the mainland, before the construction of this tunnel. The construction of the Atal Tunnel has reduced the distance of 46 km on the Manali-Sarchu road and the travel time by four to five hours, providing all-weather connectivity on the Manali-Leh highway.
In keeping with its motto 'Connecting Place Connecting People', Border Roads Organization has built this marvel of modern engineering at Atal Tunnel, Rohtang. The tunnel is also turning out to be a boon to the residents of Lahaul and Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh, apart from providing strategic advantage to the armed forces by providing an alternate link route to the country's crucial Ladakh region.
