Discontinuation of Popular Toothpaste Ad..!?
The CCPA has instructed the Director-General to study the claims of "clinically proven relief" and "work in 60 seconds" and submit a report within 15 days. The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has issued an order suspending GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) Consumer Healthcare Limited's advertising in india for allegedly violating the Sensodyne toothpaste product's advertisements. In addition, the CCPA has fined Naphthol Online Shopping Limited Rs 10 lakh for carrying out fake advertisements and unfair trading practices.
According to the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, the CCPA has voluntarily launched an inquiry into the matter and issued orders on GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) on january 27 and Naaptol on february 2. According to the order, all Sensodyne advertisements aired in india should be stopped within seven days. The commission cited the phrase "paste recommended by dentists around the world" in the Sensodyne ad. In india, it is against the rules for dentists to publicly approve any product or drug. The Commission, citing this provision, cannot change the law in force in india or allow foreign dentists to show up to allay consumer fears about dentistry. The CCPA has instructed the Director-General to submit a report within 15 days after examining claims such as "the world's No.1 Sensodyne paste recommended by dentists worldwide" and "clinically proven relief", "works in 60 seconds".
In another case, the CCPA issued a notice against Naaptol Online Shopping Ltd. In it, it ordered the cessation of false advertising such as "Set of 2 gold Jewelry", "Magnetic Knee Support" and "Acupressure yoga Slippers". In addition, the company was fined 10 lakh rupees. Having a 24X7 channel in different languages across the country, misleading ads can have a huge impact on consumers. The commission said in a statement that Naaptol had noted that the advertisements aired on tv were recorded and not live. In addition, it has banned the posting of advertisements with false demand for the product. For example, advertisements such as "This product can only be purchased today for one day" and "Buy only within 5 hours" are prohibited.
