PMAY-Rural plan: good news for those who want to build their own house. The Union cabinet has decided to extend the deadline for the Prime Minister's Awas Yojana Rural Plan (PMAY-Rural plan).


The Union cabinet has decided to extend the deadline for the Prime Minister's Awas Yojana Rural Scheme (PMAY-Rural Plan), which was brought for the dream of the poor.


The central government launched the Prime Minister's Awas Yojana scheme in 2015. Decided to implement the scheme in stages. 


Beneficiaries under this scheme will get a lump sum Offering benefits up to Rs 2.35 lakh. The scheme is expected to be implemented only till march 2021. 


But now it has decided to extend the deadline to march 2024. The decision was taken by the ministers at a meeting of the Union cabinet on Wednesday. The cabinet approved the decision to extend the scheme.

Union Information and Broadcasting minister Anurag Thakur have said that financial assistance will be provided for the construction of the remaining 155.75 lakh houses by march 31, 2021. 


Meanwhile, the central government has set a target of building 2.95 crore houses under PMAYG. However, the construction of 155.75 lakh houses is yet to be completed under this target. The government has launched the scheme with the aim of providing 'homes for all in rural areas.


"We estimate that 2.02 crore houses will be completed by august 15, 2022. With this, the plan needs to be continued till march 2024 to achieve the remaining target”. 


Cabinet also approved the Ken-Betwa river connection project at an estimated cost of Rs 44,605 crore. The project will cost Rs. 39,317 crores central support, Rs. 36,290 crore grant, Rs. The cabinet has decided to provide a loan of Rs 3,027 crore.


The project will address water shortages in the Bundelkhand region, madhya pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. The project will bring immense benefits to Panna, Thikamgarh, Chhatarpur, Sagar, Damoh, Datia, Vidisha, Shivpuri and Raisen districts of madhya pradesh as well as Banda, Mahoba, jhansi & Lalitpur districts of UP.
