Relax in Train! Relax in Fares too!! South Deets
Chennai: The Southern Railway has declared that limitations on public transportation, in the suburban trains, will be eased further with immediate effect. All sorts of tickets, including student tickets, will be granted to all groups of travelers. Initially, regular male travelers were prohibited from traveling during peak hours (7 am to 9.30 a.m. and 4.30 pm to 7 pm). They will, however, be permitted to travel if they present a two-dose covid vaccination certificate along with any ID card when purchasing tickets.
"The general male category, which was previously restricted to travel have to present a two-dose covid vaccination certificate along with any ID card to establish their identity when purchasing tickets. They will be given both the tickets (single and return), including season tickets too" an official statement stated. Furthermore, for passengers who do not have an authorization letter/ID card from their employment and who do not have a two-dose vaccination certificate, the restriction to travel during peak hours will remain in effect.
During non-peak hours, they will only be granted single travel tickets, according to the announcement. Meanwhile, Southern Railway launched a new contemporary Data Centre in chennai on Wednesday, replacing a decades-old facility that served various ticketing operations in three of its zones.
The old Data Centre, which had been established in 1985, had become congested over the years and was in desperate need of infrastructure renovation to accommodate the steady growth, which had reached thousands of counters and over nine lakh tickets per day, including the IRCTC's online ticketing platform.
