Tragic accident: 6 Children drown in Rainwater... 


On sunday in Haryana's Gurugram, six kids drowned while taking a bath in a pond that had accumulated rainwater. All of the children's bodies, who ranged in age from eight to thirteen, have been found. police said Durgesh, Ajit, Rahul, Piyush, deva and Varun, residents of Shankar vihar Colony, had gone to bathe in the pond in the afternoon and drowned. Teams of police, State Disaster Response Force, Civil Defence, National Disaster Response Force and fire brigade personnel were dispatched to the spot and the bodies were pulled out from the pond after a four-hour long rescue operation, which ended at 9 pm. police said the bodies have been sent to the civil hospital and their postmortem will be done on Monday. 

Deputy Commissioner, Gurugram, Nishant Kumar Yadav said that chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar has announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each for the families of the deceased. Will locate and remove the water to prevent similar accidents in the future, Yadav said, adding that the pond in question was a piece of unused property in Sector 111 and it was completely filled after the recent rains.

He told that six children were playing outside their houses and reached the pond at around 3.30 pm to take a bath. It was around 4.30 in the evening when a boy named Sanju, who was earlier with the children but did not go to the pond, saw clothes and slippers on the bank of the pond. SHO Aman Yadav said he informed the members of the colony, who then informed the police, who led a team. The first body exhumed was that of 11-year-old Deva, was a Class 6 student. The other victims were pupils in grades 5 through 9.

According to reports the parents of the deceased mostly work as helpers in factories and labourers. “It is barren land and the children of Shankar vihar Colony had come to bathe in this makeshift pond in the afternoon. We feared that the clothes, shoes and slippers of six children were drowned and eventually the bodies of all the six were recovered.
