What are the good habits that need to be practiced at an early age?

S Venkateshwari

Habits are vital to our health. Good habits taught during childhood help in building a strong foundation of a kid’s lifetime. It is nevermore too early to start instilling healthy and good habits in kids. Children are inspired by their surroundings. It’s important to start teaching them good habits, especially considering that children develop habits by age of nine.

The earlier we introduce good habits, the more likely these practices will cling for years to come. Look at handwashing for instance.

It’s an apparent habit you can teach very early on.

Teach children about healthful eating habits and how to include more fruits and vegetables in their diet.

Adapt dinnertime into a bonding experience. Give kids age-appropriate chores to help out in the cuisine as you make dinner.

Make a day of visiting the library and finding certain books together. Kids love creating messes and throwing things everywhere.

Direct them to clean the mess once they are done playing.

Teach them to say – “Please”, “Thank You” and “Sorry” as these are magical words and kids should be taught their values from their childhood.

Another good habit could be playing outside for 30 minutes before starting on homework.

Whatever the habit, make it easy to adapt and continue. As much as we want to encourage good habits in our children, we need to understand that all these habits can be reinforced if the parents practice them too.
