Green Crackers Are Not Completely Pollution-Free ..?!
Take Care of Yourself Before Lighting Fireworks
Every diwali, air pollution in places like Delhi-NCR spikes. Although the supreme court has allowed green crackers this year under certain conditions, environmental experts caution that they are not completely pollution-free. They only reduce pollution by 30–40%, and when used in large numbers, they still contribute significantly to poor air quality.
🌿 What Are Green Crackers?
Developed by CSIR-NEERI in 2018.
Contain less harmful chemicals like barium nitrate, sulfur, and potassium nitrate.
Use zeolite, aluminum, and iron oxide as alternatives.
Emit less smoke and noise (110–125 decibels vs. 160 in traditional crackers).
Produce gases like water vapor and air, which reduce airborne dust.
❗ Are Green Crackers Completely Pollution-Free?
No, they still emit smoke, harmful gases, and particulate matter.
Pollution reduction is only 30–40%, not 100%.
Mass usage during diwali can worsen air quality, especially in already polluted areas like Delhi.
CPCB experts warn that anything that produces smoke cannot be considered eco-friendly.
