As wild pigs continue to die due to African swine fever in the forests of tamil Nadu, kerala, and karnataka, forest officials have said that the sale of domesticated pigs in the Nilgiri district has been banned. The wild boars that were there have been dying continuously for the past month. More than 200 wild boars have died in the Nilgiri district.
Similarly, wild boars continue to die in the forest areas of kerala and karnataka states adjacent to tamil Nadu. Following this, the officials examined the vital organs of the dead wild boars and said that all these pigs died due to African swine fever. Nilgiri district Collector Amreet told reporters that it has been confirmed that wild pigs have died of African swine fever. There is no chance of this disease spreading to other wild animals or humans, he said.
Meanwhile, in a press release issued by the Cudalur forest department officials, it said that the sale of domesticated pigs in the Nilgiris has been banned until the series of deaths of wild pigs is resolved. Strict action will be taken against those who violate this, they said.
