Pfizer's vaccine: Children under 5 years of age..!?

A Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine was approved in june to protect children under the age of 5 from the coronavirus, just as the vaccine protects the elderly. Data suggest that it builds immunity among children under 5 years of age. New data from the companies showed the vaccine was 73.2% effective at preventing COVID-19 among children aged 6 months to 4 years. But experts say the results are preliminary because they were conducted on a small number of children. According to these data, 13 children tested positive for Covid-19 at least seven days after receiving the third dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, compared with 21 cases among those who received a placebo.

The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine was approved in june for children under 5 years of age, and a preliminary analysis based on 10 symptomatic COVID-19 cases in a study based on data showing that the coronavirus vaccine produces the same immunity as adults suggests a vaccine efficacy of 80.3%. But experts cautioned that the data is preliminary due to the small number of symptomatic cases.
Updated data released tuesday showed 13 children developed COVID-19 at least seven days after receiving the third dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, compared with 21 cases among those who received a placebo. Most of the children were infected with the Omicron BA.2 type of virus and were tested in march and april this year. Pfizer and BioNTech also said they are preparing an application for US approval for Omicron's bivalent vaccine targeting the BA.4 and BA.5 subtypes for children under 12 years of age. On monday the companies applied for US approval for the bivalent vaccine to be given to people 12 years and older. Pfizer said it will begin clinical trials of a vaccine for children against the Omicron-type virus in the fall.
